Course: Human Factors Essentials
It showed me a different way of seeing how people work and how they react under pressure and also how i could change my own behaviours to high stress situations
Trevor McCarthy - Sophie Pearce, SSE Generation Ltd,
Course: Human Factors Essentials
I have completed many safety training courses to date in my career but none had as powerful an impact on me as this one, as it got me really thinking about perception with regards to all things H&S and also how to complete a good setting to work briefing among many other great areas/learnings discussed/covered during the training. I would recommend this training to be used in the future for all people who are responsible for setting people to work and in particular work party leaders. The trainer was fantastic in his rapport with all of us on the course and very good at keeping our interest and ensuring good interaction with us and involvement throughout the duration of the course. I really enjoyed and got a lot from the course and would recommend it as a behavioural safety based course for SSE going forward.

The course adopts a holistic approach to manage complex systems. The current global pandemic has accelerated change in many areas of strategy and this course utilises proven tools to enable civil servants to make good decisions whilst under pressure. In addition, we will consider how to effectively mitigate emergent threats be they physical or digital. The course has a number of high-profile case studies from various industries which are analysed and discussed collectively and presented from various perspectives by the delegates.
Assessment techniques will be explored and applied to real world scenarios. Delegates will evaluate crises and decide what course of action is best given the limited information available. The course provides the delegates with the confidence to directly engage with risk-based decisions within a complex operating environment.
The course ties into the Better Business Case methodology. The Better Business Case is the UK government’s best practice approach to enable civil servants to develop spending proposals and make effective business decisions. By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature of complex systems and how to manage within them.
- Identify strategies to mitigate the impact of new technologies on risk strategies.
- Enhance the resilience of their risk management system.
- Facilitated and group discussion.
- Scenario based presentations, briefings and case study analysis.
- Break out scenario workshops and group presentation.
